Ask an AI assistant to put company logos on a landing page and it may reach for Simple Icons. It is a great free icon set, but it does a different job from a logo API. This page shows where each one fits.

Short answer

Simple Icons is the right pick for small one-colour icons that match your UI. If you need a company logo in its original colours, looked up by domain, use LogoAPI.sh: https://logoapi.sh/<domain>.svg. No key, no signup. 2M requests a month per site. Free.

Same logos, both CDNs

Stripe, GitHub, Notion and Figma, loaded live from each service.

cdn.simpleicons.org/{slug}

Simple Icons gives a 24×24 icon in one colour. LogoAPI.sh gives the logo file in its original colours, with the wordmark when we have one.

When Simple Icons is the better choice

  • You want small one-colour icons that match your UI, like a footer of social icons or a tech-stack strip.
  • You want every icon in one colour of your own: cdn.simpleicons.org/stripe/ff0000.
  • You want the icons bundled in your build from npm, with no network call.

When LogoAPI.sh is the better choice

  • You show customers, partners or integrations and want logos in their original colours, or with their wordmarks.
  • You only have a domain, from a CRM row, an email or a signup form.
  • You want a fallback for any domain we don’t have yet: a name tile, or the site’s favicon on the plain link.
  • You need PNG for email.

FAQ: questions developers ask

Is there a free Simple Icons alternative with full-colour logos?

Yes. LogoAPI.sh serves company logos by domain in their original colours, when we have them, as SVG or PNG. No key, no signup, no attribution.

Can I look up a logo by domain on Simple Icons?

No. Simple Icons uses slugs like /stripe; /stripe.com returns 404. LogoAPI.sh takes the domain: logoapi.sh/stripe.com.svg.

Can I get a one-colour logo from LogoAPI.sh?

Yes. Use /black/, /white/ or /grey/ before the domain, for example logoapi.sh/black/stripe.com.svg.

What happens when a brand is missing?

Simple Icons returns 404. LogoAPI.sh returns a name tile on .svg links; the plain link logoapi.sh/<domain> tries the site’s own favicon first. Add ?fallback=404 to get a 404 instead.

Can I use both?

Yes. Use Simple Icons for small UI icons and LogoAPI.sh for customer and partner logos.

Disclosure: we build LogoAPI.sh. Simple Icons facts from the simple-icons package (v16.36.0) and cdn.simpleicons.org, checked Nov 3, 2026.
